Update on Kawaii Baby Diapers.
Posted on September 28th, 2009 No commentsSo, it seems that the number one search that has been leading people to my site has been Kawaii Baby. Well, if I’m going to be drawing people in with that, it seems kinda a dick move to leave you all hanging. So here is my review of the Kawaii Baby diapers. We bought the newborn velcro diapers, as seen in this link. Ebay Link. Note that since this is an ebay link, it will be invalid eventually, but they are white pocket diapers with NO snaps. If you are looking at Kawaii baby with snaps, different diapers than what I am reviewing. They seemed to work great, the glass of water test had them soaking up water quickly right off the bat, the fleece did its job leaving the pad soaked and the inside of the diaper dry as a bone. BUT, the leg elastic seems a bit sloppy, and since my son has chicken legs, there was a bit of a gap. so, out of 12 test diaperings, he leaked all over mommy and daddy 9 times. most of the fluid still went into the pad, but enough leaked out. If your kid has larger legs, or is up around 11-12 pounds when you start using them, you should be fine. As for us? I’m buying some prefolds, and using the Kawaii baby as spill pads and diaper covers.

We have some wonderful toys for you 007
Posted on August 28th, 2009 No commentsNow that he’s here, we’ve had to buy a few things we honestly just hadn’t thought of. A few nifty toys that I wish we had when my sister was born. Munchkin Steam Guard Microwave Sterilizer
, which is pretty nice, although unless you are stuffing it full, bottles tend to fall over. Also, the wide swinging lid is a bit unwieldy. Having looked at others, I kinda wish I’d have bought this one, The First Years Soothie Microwave Sterilizer
. It has a straight up and down lid, a flatter internal base, and some internal racks. But, the concept of a microwave steam sterilizer is awesome in its own right, no matter which one you get. No more boiling for forever and fishing out with tongs! Plus, when I get back into doing some home-brewing, I can use it to sterilize some of my brewing supplies.
While we did keep the old crib, we got these bumpers that strap to the sides and are breathable. so he isn’t getting past the bars, and he can shove his face against it until the cows come home, it won’t stop his breathing.
Also, we have this strapped to the crib. Munchkin Diaper Change Organizer, everything right there! Some flat drawer space, a diaper holder, the whole nine yards. I’ve knocked it off once or twice changing the sheets, but I take the whole mattress out when I do that, and that sometimes hits the velcro straps and rips free. otherwise, its rock solid, and with a changing pad, beats having a separate changing table taking up room.

Welcome to the world!
Posted on August 23rd, 2009 No commentsOur son was brought into the world, kicking and screaming the whole way, at 9 am on Friday the 21st. Nice and healthy, 9 and 10 apgar. Alexander came a bit early, but Lynn is just happy to have an outside baby. Updates will be a bit sparse.

You’re not fat, You’re pregnant!
Posted on August 12th, 2009 No commentsRepeat those words pardner! Lynn has been spending probably half her energy on not waddling while she walks, and the other half trying not to complain too much. As much as I tell her, she still complains about being fat. You’re not fat, you’re pregnant. Guys, when you get to that last month, just keep repeating how beautiful she is. She won’t believe you, but keep saying it anyways. And don’t say, wow , that dress makes you look so pregnant. Just, trust me on that.

Emotional aspects of becoming a daddy.
Posted on August 5th, 2009 No commentsThe closer we get to holding him in our arms, the more real this gets for me. I’m good on the mechanics of raising a baby. I did a good portion of caring for my sister when she was born, I helped out roommates with their baby a few years ago. I’m good on feeding, changing, bathing, dressing, making sure the kid doesn’t kill himself.
But, this time around, if he ends up screwed up, its my fault. The first few years, no sweat, but, eventually, making sure he’s brought up right, has the skills he needs, ect. Its a lot.Anyone else out there have those worries, and what did you do about it?

In position
Posted on July 29th, 2009 No commentsSo, the boy is in proper position. Just a matter of waiting now. Of course, Lynn just wants to be able to hold the baby in her arms, and not be pregnant anymore.
So, lots of walking, back rubs, and foot massages. Everything is pretty much in place for the baby.

THe BIIIIIIG U/S
Posted on July 27th, 2009 No commentsSo, Lynn is going in shortly to see if our boy is still breach. If he is, we are looking at a few things, most of which mean he will be born in the next day or two, a month early. Excited? Yes. Hopeful? Yes. Ready? I think so. Terrified? Out of my god damned mind. Its like opening night of a broadway play, places everyone, remember your lines, don’t mess up, THIS IS THE REAL DEAL!
I just hope he doesn’t look to much like me.

Alls well on the southern front
Posted on July 27th, 2009 No commentsSo, when Lynn said she felt the kiddo doing cartwheels a couple weeks ago, she was right! He’s head down, face down, and dropped. Fingertip dilation. So, while today is officially 36 weeks, the boy is locked, loaded, and ready to drop when he feels like it. Lynn, of course, wouldn’t mind him being out NOW. We both read things occasionally from women who claim to MISS being pregnant. Only if they have REALLY bad long term memory and are closet masochists, me thinks.

Diapers
Posted on July 15th, 2009 No commentsSo. we got in a pack of diapers. The “Kawaii Baby” cloth diapers with inserts. The seem to be good quality, glass o water leak testing seems good, it will be interesting to see how they work long term. They are velcro, not snap, so we only got a set of the smallest of them. By the time the kiddo grows out of them, I’m pretty sure he’ll be able to undo velcro! heh. But at 50 bucks for a dozen, with thin and thick inserts… can’t be beat for the first few months.
For the first week or so, till the cord falls off, we WILL be using disposables. the ones with the cut out for the cord. I find its just easier that way. Plus, that means the three day black tar poo will be going straight to a landfill, where it will join with its tar poo brethren and slowly merge to form a giant black tarry poo monster and devour the world, so that’s always a plus.

You’re going to make a great daddy…
Posted on July 9th, 2009 No commentsSorry for the dearth of updates. The baby has still not flipped, my job is going away between a week to 2 months after the boy arrives, and Lynn is constantly exhausted and in dire need of a foot rub. So I’ve been busy!
A lot of people have been saying to me, you’re going to make a great dad. Or telling Lynn and I together, you’ll be great parents. Now, I know she will, but I still worry about myself. My father seemed a great guy, until after I was born. I know that he was always a manipulative sociopath, but part of me wonders, was it a change caused by me being born? I know, it sounds ridiculous, but its a thought I have. And looking around at a lot of books on the subject, its rather common. Its like how some children of divorce blame themselves for causing it, for being the catalyst. I know its stupid, especially the reverse, that after the kiddo is here I’ll start changing into some horrible monster, but hey. They call them irrational fears because they are irrational. All I know for sure is, I already love this lump of flesh lots and lots, and I hope nothing changes that.
